Anne (Yanqi) Liu holds an SNSF Postdoc.Mobility fellowship to study the architecture of cephalopods brains (octopus, squid and cuttlefish) at the University of Oregon, US. She obtained her PhD in Neuroscience at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, where she studied brain connections in mammals. Cephalopods have camera-like eyes similar to humans, but their brains involve completely different organizations. Studying distantly related organisms offers great insights on how evolution uses different strategies to solve similar problems. Understanding these mechanisms can further inspire innovative technologies in artificial intelligence and robotics. Outside the lab, Anne is a passionate science communicator and is enthusiastic about transforming scientific knowledge into accessible forms.
